Last weekend saw several cadets from both Guildford and Godalming Squadron’s go shooting on the L98A2 rifle at RAF Odiham. It was a very successful weekend with many cadets earning a variety of marksman awards.
The weather was perfect with hot, sunny temperatures on both days. Saturday was a long day for everyone with over a thousand rounds to get through during the day. Throughout the day there was lots of time for practicing and improving on shooting the rifle and the support from all the staff was extremely useful to gain tips on how to improve the different principles of Marksmanship.
Saturday saw many awards being earned including, 3 Corps Marksman’s by Cpl Taylor D, Cdt Branch and Cdt Fuller. Also on her second shoot, Cdt Carroll achieved Region Marksman, and Cpl Murphy (1254 Squadron) achieving wing marksman.
Sunday was another busy day on the range with a further 900 rounds to shoot. Several junior cadets had their first shoot with the ATC on the Sunday, with many of them passing their WHT on the day. Even more marksman awards were achieved on the second day of shooting. Cdt Carroll further improved her marksman level, by achieving a Corps Marksman.
The weekend was a great success and was enjoyed by all cadets. A huge thank you must be said to all the staff that ran the weekend. With thanks to Sgt Aspin, Fg Off Hubbard, OC Clarke, FS Stewart and Sgt Cumner for all of their help and support.
